Why Washington, DC?

Washington, DC has a population of approximately 572,000 in DC proper and 5.4 million for the entire metro area. With over 300 attractions and museums from Arlington National Cemetery and the African-American Civil War Memorial to the Smithsonian and the White House, DC offers a very culturally diverse environment in which to live and work. Over 180 Embassies can be found in the city, from The Embassy of Afghanistan to The Embassy of Zimbabwe. DC is the worldwide headquarters for dozens of international trade associations, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. DC is also home to world renowned universities like George Washington University and Georgetown.

Globalization Partners was founded in Washington, DC in 2001. The DC area has served as an excellent location for GPI's global headquarters with its easy access to hundreds of multi-national organizations and companies in the greater DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia areas. DC also supports a very rich pool of some of the best and brightest language and technology professionals in the world.

Why Chicago, Illinois?

With a total population of 8.5 million, the Chicagoland area is a vast resource for finding qualified translators, copy writers, audio and video talent, multimedia authors and an array of other creative, IT and language professionals. Many of GPI’s fulltime staff have worked and lived in the Chicago area, and many still do.

Chicagoland’s globally diversified economy of $350 billion is actually larger than some countries, such as Switzerland and Taiwan. The area is home to thirty Fortune 500 companies and is second only to New York in number of corporate headquarters with ninety-eight. Chicagoland has a culturally diverse labor force of over 3.57 million, representing over 100 language groups. Over 1,500 foreign-owned firms have also decided to make the area their American home.

Why Novelty, Ohio?

Northeast Ohio has a population of almost 6.9 million people. Known for many years as a center for heavy-manufacturing industries such as steel, autos and rubber, the area now serves as headquarters for many hi-tech industries such as polymer sciences (Polymer Valley), biomedical, fuel cell, computer and electronics equipment and scientific and measuring instruments. The Cleveland area has several organizations dedicated to technology development including the Edison Biotechnology Center, Great Lakes Manufacturing Technology Center, Northeast Ohio Technology Council (NorTech), Northeast Ohio Software Association (NEOSA) and the World Trade Center of Cleveland.

Minutes from Novelty, Kent State University was one of the first Universities in the US to offer a Master’s Program in Translations and Localization and this combined with the concentration of technology firms in the area, make it an excellent location to recruit top localization professionals.

Why Missoula, Montana?

Missoula and the surrounding areas have a population just shy of 100,000. It is a university town with an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking and fishing to rafting and golfing. Montana is home to both Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. Missoula has consistently recieved top 10 rankings in several “The Best Cities...” studies. The Los Angeles based Milken Institute ranked Missoula as the #1 small metro area out of 118 studied in its Best Performing Cities Index in 2004. The index ranks U.S. metros based on their ability to create and sustain jobs, measurements of employment and salary growth and four measurements of technology output growth. Men’s Journal April 2004 ranked Missoula # 6 in its annual "50 Best Places to Live", taking into account almost 50 variables, from stress levels to the amount of wilderness nearby.

Missoula has the only World Trade Center housed on a University’s campus and two sister cities; Palmerston North and Neckargemund, Germany, and a sister state Kumamoto, Japan. GPI is one of many technology companies that now have a presence in the State leveraging the availability of both high quality lifestyles and an innovative business climate.

Why Vancouver, B.C.?

Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and is considered to be one of the world's busiest ports. The Greater Vancouver metropolitan area has a population of approximately 2.2 million. With its diverse population, Vancouver is truly a multicultural city and consistently ranks in the top five in worldwide rankings of quality of life. The major industries in the area are in forestry, mining, information technology, software development, biotechnology and tourism. Many top companies have set-up major branches in the area including Electronic Arts and eBay. The film production industry is third only to Hollywood and New York.

The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second busiest in Canada and also the second largest international passenger gateway on the west coast of North America. It will be the host of the Olympic Winter Games in 2010.

Why Rio de Janeiro, Brazil?

With a population of 5.9 million, Rio de Janeiro has approximately 200,000 companies operating on its shores including many in the banking, hospitality, telecommunications, and media sectors. More than 50% of these businesses are service related, and are responsible for about 10% of Brazil's GNP. Rio is home to the Riocenter, the largest Trade Fair, Conference and Expo-Center in Latin America.

Rio de Janeiro is of course best known for carnaval, its beaches and its scenic beauty. Rio is also known for its rich and diverse population of young professionals in the IT, translation, localization and creative arts fields. Two of the top Universities for IT and Design are located in Rio; PUC-RIO - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro and UFRJ-Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian Portuguese is one of GPI’s core language competencies.

Why Rosario, Argentina?

Rosario is the second largest metropolitan area in Argentina, with a population of approximately 1,500,000. It is located 300 km north of Buenos Aires (Argentina’s capital city) on the Paraná River. Rosario serves as the import and export center for the central and northern provinces. The city is modern, with boulevards, parks, and attractive suburbs. It is the seat of the “Universidad Nacional de Rosario” (founded 1968) and the football teams “Rosario Central” (founded 1889) and “Newell's Old Boys” (founded 1903).

Rosario’s prominence as a center for Spanish Language Localization Services has increased dramatically since the early 1990’s. It is no surprise that Rosario has some of the best Spanish translation professionals in the world as three of its Universities offer programs in translation. Instituto de Enseñaza Superior “Olga Cosettini” (IES), Instituto Superior Pago de los Arroyos (ISPA) and Colegio Inglés “San Bartolomé” offer degree programs in Technical, Legal, Literary and Scientific Translations. Rosario was honored in 2004 by being chosen as the venue for the “The International Congress of the Spanish Language” by the RAE (Real Academia Española) and the Cervantes Institute (Instituto Cervantes). Spanish is one of GPI’s core language competencies.
