Motorola and Lenovo Foundation to Support the Inclusion of More Indigenous Languages for its Users
Motorola and the Lenovo Foundation are making their technology more inclusive by adding indigenous languages to their language support system. Since the launch of this initiative, they have supported 90 languages for the past three years. Their latest addition to the list is Ladin, a minoritized and endangered language spoken in the Dolomite region of Italy.
Ladin has about 30,000 speakers and is on UNESCOās World Atlas list of endangered languages needing urgent action. Including the language in Motorolaās devices is a step to revitalize the language and promote its use in digital spaces. Ā To move forward with its mission of empowering Indigenous people by preserving their language and cultural heritage through technological inclusion, Motorola is open-sourcing over 1 million translated indigenous words for use by other tech companies to support language revitalization efforts worldwide.
